IN THE LITERARY TEXT
The Works of Nuria Amat
by
Nuria Capdevila-Argüelles
(University of Lancaster, England)
This book is a comprehensive study of the works of one of Spains leading feminist writers, Nuria Amat, a contemporary Catalan novelist. Dealing with her five novels as well as her pseudo-fictional books, this book demonstrates how invaluable the fiction of Nuria Amat is while providing a case study of womens writing in post-Franco Spain. This work explores current gender theory and its influence on our conception of genre while analyzing the very nature of fiction. An examination of the literary canon, metaliterature, the Bildungsroman, and authorial identity elucidate how Amats literary and narrative poetics transcend gender and genre.
Nuria Capdevila-Argüelles received her Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. She was awarded the Queen Sofia Research Fellowship in Peninsular Literature to complete this book. She is currently a Lecturer in the Department of European Languages and Cultures at the University of Lancaster, England.
